HOPE IS THE ESSENCE OF ST. JUDE

This photo was from 2017 when I visited St. Jude’s campus. The HOPE stone mural is one of the most recognizable spots at St. Jude.

One of the most important elements for families at St. Jude is the sense of HOPE that permeates the hospital and drives its mission.

Yesterday, someone shared a Kelly Corrigan Wonders Podcast episode with me with her guest, actor Anna Deveare Smith, talking about optimism and hope: “Optimism says: Huh. It looks pretty good out there. Things may be better. But hope looks at the evidence and says: It doesn’t look good at all. I’m going to make a leap of faith.”

Princeton professor Andrew Chignell is also on the podcast, talking about his research on hope and its importance in moving through realistically grim challenges. In my opinion, the hope offered at St. Jude is one of the most inspiring parts of the organization.

You can donate to St. Jude here, to help give hope to families facing childhood cancer.

Thank you for the support!
